THE SHARED SERVICE UNITS EMPLOY STAFF IN A WIDE RANGE OF ROLES, FROM INFORMATION SPECIALISTS TO CONTROLLERS, ICT STAFF, ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF, HR SPECIALISTS, SERVICE DESK STAFF AND COMMUNICATION ADVISERS.

The service units work for both the UvA and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS).
ADMINISTRATION CENTRE
Staff at the Administration Centre work on financial, staff and salary admini-stration, student and study progress administration, real estate administration and the AC Service Desk.
Together, they handle over 36,000 questions and requests from staff.
FACILITY SERVICES
Facility Services is responsible for issues relating to educational facilities, such as teaching logistics, teaching rooms, management and furnishing, and audio-visual equipment.

They also look after facilities in and around the buildings such as catering, cleaning, security, room management, minor maintenance issues, bicycle and site management, and post and print services.
Accommodation (real estate and maintenance, security, moves and projects) and purchasing (ordering, purchases and tenders) also fall under this department.

Janneke de Kam works two days a week as a communications officer at the Administration Centre, and the other three days she is at the AUAS SIS Central Operational Management. In both jobs, she is responsible for providing clear communication to staff and students.
‘It’s fun to work at two different departments. The UvA and AUAS are large organisations, and that means there are lots of opportunities for staff to develop. Tip: Be critical and keep asking ‘why?’ questions. That’s how we can make sure we keep doing things better.’
ICT Services provides items such as computers, phones, printers and the UvA’s (wireless) internet network, and handles around 99.000 notifications and 11,000 service requests annually. ICT Services offers all ICT services that support colleagues in education, research and business operations. The ICTS Service Desk is available daily from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm for questions and advice in the field of ICT.

LIBRARY
The UvA/AUAS library is a place for researchers, lecturers and students to study, do research and meet up, both online and offline.
Visit the library for its large collection of books, e-books, databases, and print and online journals, or if you need tools for compiling online readers and syllabi. The library can help with literature management, saving research and publication details, and information about copyright. You can also attend workshops for free with your staff ID card. The Special Collections and the Allard Pierson Museum are also part of the library organisation.
